Password Protected Directories
See how to set up a safe and user-only area in your web site with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that could be accessed when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized individuals could see its content. This option may be used for the primary folder of a specific Internet site or only for a certain subfolder based on your needs. As an illustration, if you are building a new site and you do not want people to see it before it is 100% ready, you might want to prohibit the access to it as a whole, while if you would like only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the website can be seen by anybody. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear if the login details the visitor enters are not correct. Even a direct link to a file will not work as long as any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Website Hosting
Creating a password-protected area will take just a couple of mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your sites inside a
website hosting account with us. You will not need to do anything difficult - you'll need to pick a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it must be protected, and then to type the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. When a number of individuals require their own login details, there won't be a problem to make numerous different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this feature is active. If you'd like to disable the protection feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a
semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to secure any content that you have uploaded via our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it is part of, so you'll not have to type in any code at any time. You will simply have to select one of the domains/subdomains you have in the web hosting account and to pick which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can enter the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be all set. The protection shall be enabled immediately, so anybody who tries to access the newly protected folder shall have to enter the correct login details. If various people should be able to open precisely the same content, you could set up a separate username for each of them.
